Dr. Mauro uses evidenced based treatment to help you get to a better and healthier version of yourself.
So what does evidenced based exactly mean?
There are specific proven techniques that have been researched to treat mental health, including trauma symptoms.
Cognitive Behavioral Therapy
After traumatic events, the brain becomes messy and disorganized and trauma survivors develop unhealthy thinking patterns, intense emotional responses, and unhealthy coping mechanisms in order to cope with the horrific events that happened to them. Using CBT, Dr. Mauro teaches you that although the events cannot be changed, the way you currently view and feel about your trauma can be changed. Using CBT, Dr. Mauro teaches you about trauma and PTSD, how to identify and recognize your trauma triggers, become connected with those painful emotions, and develop healthy ways to cope.
Trauma survivors frequently find themselves "stuck" in the past, hence, they are never present in the moment. Their body has a difficult time identifying and recognizing the difference from the past and present. Using mindfulness, Dr. Mauro teaches you how to become in tune with your body and mind using your five senses. By becoming connected with your body and mind, you learn how to no longer fear all your trauma related physical sensations and trauma related thoughts. Mindfulness tools will teach you to remain present in the moment and be less judgmental with yourself.
