Dr. Mauro uses evidenced based treatment to help you get to a better and healthier version of yourself.
So what does evidenced based exactly mean?
There are specific proven techniques that have been researched to treat mental health, including trauma symptoms.
Cognitive Behavioral Therapy
After traumatic events, the brain becomes messy and disorganized and trauma survivors develop unhealthy thinking patterns, intense emotional responses, and unhealthy coping mechanisms in order to cope with the horrific events that happened to them. Using CBT, Dr. Mauro teaches you that although the events cannot be changed, the way you currently view and feel about your trauma can be changed. Dr. Mauro helps you connect with your trauma related thoughts, feelings, and behaviors.
Mindfulness
Trauma survivors frequently find themselves "stuck" in the past, or "worried" about being hurt again in the near future. Hence, they have a difficult time being present in the moment. For trauma survivors, the body has a difficult time identifying and recognizing the difference between the past and present. Using mindfulness intervention, Dr. Mauro teaches you how to become connected with your body and mind and separate the trauma from you.
By becoming connected with your body and mind, you learn how to no longer fear all your trauma related physical sensations and trauma related thoughts and unpleasant emotions. Mindfulness tools will teach you to recognize trauma distress that continues to present itself in the present moment while at the same time regain control of your life.
