Trauma affects more than memories, it changes the way we think, feel, relate to others, and experience the world around us. Many individuals living with trauma find themselves constantly on guard, emotionally overwhelmed, disconnected from others, or feeling as though they are still reacting to events that happened long ago.
Dr. Mauro's therapy is designed to help individuals understand these responses, reduce their impact, and reconnect with the present. Through evidence-based treatment, Dr. Mauro helps clients move beyond survival and toward meaningful, lasting change.
Dr. Mauro specializes in working with adults experiencing:
Dr. Mauro's therapy is structured, collaborative, and focused on meaningful progress. Whenever possible, appointments are scheduled on the same day and time each week, creating consistency and providing a stable foundation for the therapeutic process.
Sessions are active and engaging, not simply conversations about the past. Together, Dr. Mauro and her clients work to understand how trauma continues to influence thoughts, emotions, behaviors, relationships, and the nervous system in the present.
Clients can expect therapy to include education, practical coping strategies, evidence-based interventions, and meaningful discussions that promote insight and lasting change. Throughout treatment, Dr. Mauro maintains clear professional and ethical boundaries while fostering a therapeutic relationship built on trust, collaboration, respect, and accountability.
Healing is not about forgetting the past, it is about helping the mind and body recognize that the danger has passed so life is no longer controlled by previous experiences.

Successful therapy is built on collaboration. Dr. Mauro provides guidance, clinical expertise, and evidence-based interventions, while clients bring their own experiences, strengths, and willingness to engage in the therapeutic process.
Meaningful change often occurs both inside and outside of the therapy room. When appropriate, clients may be encouraged to practice new skills, complete reflection exercises, or apply strategies between sessions to reinforce progress and promote long-term healing.

Trauma therapy is more than talking about difficult experiences. Effective treatment helps individuals understand how trauma continues to affect thoughts, emotions, behaviors, relationships, and the nervous system in the present.
